Peter Roscoe, piano technician

Available for piano tuning, repair, & restoration

I am an experienced, self-employed piano technician, working throughout the Midlands. I can perform expert piano tuning, restoration, repairs, and valuations. I often work in private homes, schools, and concert halls.

I have many years of tuning experience, detailed below. Most of my professional career was with Steinway & Sons in London. I tuned for a broad range of customers, including well known musicians such as Annie Lenox, Herbie Hancock, and Vladimir Ashkenazy.

Having recently moved to Nottinghamshire after getting married, I am establishing a successful tuning business in the area. Plus, I am now a part time tutor with the piano tuning course at Newark & Sherwood College.

I work throughout the Midlands from my home in Bleasby, Nottinghamshire. I cover the counties of Derbyshire, Gloucestershire, Leicestershire, Lincolnshire, Northamptonshire, Nottinghamshire, Rutland, Staffordshire, Warwickshire, the West Midlands, and Yorkshire.

If I can be of assistance to you, please give me a call or email. My home telephone number is 01636 831089, and my mobile is 07984 077056. My email is peter@peterroscoe.com.

Tuning Experience with Steinway & Sons

My tuning career began at the piano company James Dace & Son. I gained valuable experience carrying out 20-25 tunings a week for three years.

I then accepted a position as a tuner with Steinway & Sons in London. After three months of training at Steinway Hall with Ulrich Gerhartz, head concert technician, I worked full time looking after Steinway clients and venues throughout London and the UK.

I have worked in many concert halls and recording studios in London, such as:

I have also worked on numerous, multi-day recording sessions for:

Fond memories include sharing fish and chips following a Decca recording session at Potton Hall with Vladimir Ashkenazy and his wife.

Other work with Steinway

In 2003, I accepted a sales position at Steinway Hall. One of my most favorite sales and installation was to singer David Gray. He purchased a model ‘D’ for his recording studio in Crouch End “The Church studios.” In 2008, I decided to return to tuning, and moved to Nottinghamshire.

I maintain close ties to Steinway & Sons. I carry out preparation on all the Steinway ranges of piano prior to delivery to venues, showrooms, colleges and the domestic market. I also prepare Kawai pianos at their Milton Keynes distribution centre. I also continue to do Steinway concert tunings at Sheffield City Hall and Leeds Town Hall.

Education

I attended the well regarded, three year piano tuning, repair and restoration course at Newark & Sherwood College, graduating in 1995.

In 2009, I accepted a part-time position back at Newark & Sherwood College as a piano tuning instructor. It is a great pleasure that I'm now able to impart the experience I've gained to a new generation of students.

Musical Background

Having grown up in a very musical family, I started to play the piano at the age of five. I studied under Stephen Reynolds of the Royal Northern College of Music, with whom I achieved Grade 8 piano at the age of sixteen.
